Carmelo Brustia is from a small village in Val D’Aosta, Italy. He is  a multi faceted artist, expressing himself through all of his senses to understand and raise human consciousness.

PS: How would you describe yourself as a ‘creative’?

CB: My creativity stems from the need to release emotions and concepts that every day I get out of life.

PS: Why do you create?

Creating for me is to clean my spirit, my body, my life through the sharing of this work. Every time that I am creating is as if I'm crying, laughing, screaming in silence.

Since I was a child I have seen a lot of different things that don't exist in this dimension, I see worlds with different musics, colors, forms, emotions, odors, lives and is necessary to let out all of this visions to understand them.

PS: What is your preferred ‘medium’ of art expression?

CB: The medium of artistic expression that I prefer is my body, in addition to video and tailoring / sculpture.

In my art, disciplines merge into a single discipline made up of many different parts.

PS: Do you have a message you would like the viewers to interpret, to digest?

CB: My message is to express my art mediums freely in their nature.

PS: When creating a project, what is your process from concept to execution? I know this is different for each type of media you work with from designer, performer, photography, film, musical composition, is it different for each?

CB: The artistic process for me generally begins with two senses: smell and hearing. From there they develop visions. Very often I get clear information, natural and instinctive. then in second time I write a project to sort out ideas and create the project.

PS: How long did it take you to create?

CB: For this dress I spent nine months working to cut every bramble, clean, apply and let dry. PS: In the SHOE feature, what materials did you use and what inspired you to create this?

CB: The shoes are part of a video project: venus. The inspiration for the creation comes from the connection that exists between the feet and the ground. Our feet are the part of our body that always stays in contact with the earth and the shoes feel the energy codes that express, in their diversity, the nuances of this connection. The shoes allow us to express the magnetic force that unites, separating, combining, separating, at every step our body to the ground.

PS: Where do you see yourself in the future? What is your ultimate goal?

CB: My ultimate goal is to be a film director. I think the artist is present, but if I think of the future I see myself working in collaboration with several artists from all over the world to

grow together in respect for our diversity. My search continues daily, investigating different materials and techniques.

PS: When can we look forward to seeing more of your work?

You will see VENUS, the new video in collaboration with several Italian performers and dancers. Published in October in the festivals of video-dance performance and video art. Also you can find all the news on my website, the link is below and on the contributor’s page.
